What are the most common facial areas treated with Anti-Wrinkle injections?
The most common facial areas treated with anti-wrinkle injections include the forehead, the area between the eyebrows (glabella), and the outer corners of the eyes (crow's feet). These regions tend to develop noticeable wrinkles and lines due to repetitive facial expressions, such as frowning, squinting, or raising the eyebrows. By targeting the muscles responsible for these movements, anti-wrinkle injections help relax the underlying muscles, leading to a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Additionally, some individuals may also opt for treatments in other areas, such as the chin or around the mouth, to address specific concerns or achieve a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation. Who performs the injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections are a prescription-only drug; therefore, it has to be prescribed, and performed by a registered health practitioner. At Bonny Skin we have doctors on-call who will perform a consultation with you and prescribe the drug for 12 months. The injections are performed by our fully qualified nurses, who have completed extensive training and gained a Graduate Diploma in Cosmetic Nursing. Our cosmetic nurses continue to enhance their skills through regular education and can advise you on all of your skin concerns.
How much does Anti-Wrinkle injections cost?
This depends on how much is injected. The number of units you'll need will depend on how active your muscles are and where need it. We DO NOT charge per area. Anti-wrinkle injections have been used for cosmetic purposes for over 25 years and for medical purposes for even longer without any reports of long-term side effects
What does treatment involve?
Anti-wrinkle injections involve having a number of small injections in the treated muscles. The process takes only a short time to perform. The needles used are extremely fine, and only a small volume is injected. The discomfort experienced is minimal and well tolerated. A vibrating device is also used in the area of the injection to reduce the pain sensation. You may have a few injections sites that are visible, which tend to look like a mozzie bite, but will fade soon afterwards. The effects of anti-wrinkle injections are seen after one to two weeks as you will gradually notice a gradual relaxation of the muscles treated.
What are some of the side effects?
Possible side effects are usually temporary and restricted to the area of injection. They include drooping of the eyelids, bruising, headache, face pain, redness, swelling at the injection site, bruising, muscle weakness, numbness or a feeling of pins and needles and nausea. These effects are rare, and we will have a full consultation before the procedure to help eliminate any risks.
Can I resume normal activities after treatment?
Normal activities may be resumed after treatment. However, you should avoid exercise, lying down, or touching the treated areas for at least 12 hours.
How long do Anti-Wrinkle injections last?
The period of effectiveness depends on the number of units administered and can last up to 4 months, but generally on the first few sessions, the longevity is usually shorter – around 3 months. Anti-wrinkle injections are more effective and last longer when given at regular intervals of 3-4 months.
Anti-Wrinkle treatment aftercare advice
You may apply makeup immediately following your treatment.
Avoid facials and saunas the day of treatment.
Try to use the injected muscles for the first 1-2 hours after treatment: practice frowning, raising your eyebrows and squinting. This helps work the solution into your muscles. Although this is thought to help, this will not impact your treatment negatively if you forget.
The results of your treatment can take up to 14 days to take full effect. Usually patients notice a change in 4-5 days. It takes time for the muscles to lose strength and the lines to fade.
Do not touch or rub injected site for 12 hours following treatment. Avoid exercise and sweating for the remainder of the day and no lying down or leaning forward for 2-4 hours after treatment.
Avoid any type of facial, microdermabrasion, or massage for 14 days after treatment.
