Chemical Peel
Chemical peels accelerate the natural process of shedding old skin and refreshing it with new skin.
If you are looking to reduce the signs of ageing in your face, such as fine lines, wrinkles and discolourations, a chemical peel can help. Human skin is continually exfoliating, shedding dead cells and replacing them. But it doesn’t always do so as fast as we’d like. That’s when treatments such as chemical peels can accelerate the process. Chemical peels are very gentle treatments that produce noticeable improvement and can be repeated regularly to maintain a youthful appearance.

Types of Chemical Peels
At Bonny Skin Studio we use three types of chemical peels that are derived from sugar cane (glycolic), fermented milk (lactic), and apples (mandelic).
Alpha Hydroxy Acid
Beta Hydroxy Acid
Jessner’s Peel
Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHAs)
AHA peels work by loosening and exfoliating the superficial top layer of the skin. This peel also stimulates collagen growth due to its excellent capability to penetrate skin. There are different concentrations of this solution which can be customised to suit your skin. You may experience some minor redness after the treatment and see some flaking as the outer layers peel away. To achieve optimal results, we recommend that you have these peels done every 2 -4 weeks.
Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHAs)
Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) are lipid based (oil loving) and we use salicylic acid. They work very well on oily skin types, helping to control oil production, on acne prone and congested skin. Salicylic acid has anti-inflammatory properties, which can also reduce redness and irritation from breakouts.
*Clients with sensitivity to aspirin are contraindicated for the use of salicylic acid.
Jessner’s Peel
Jessner’s Peel consists of mild peeling agents such as, salicylic acid, lactic acid and resorcinol. The Jessner’s Peel can reduce the appearance of discolouration and environmental damage caused by the sun and pollutants. Because the Jessner’s Peel is mild, it is an excellent choice for all skin types. It soothes and rejuvenates skin, producing beautiful results in the treatment of mild to severe acne by decreasing oil production and opening clogged sebaceous follicles.
Which type of peel should I get?
You don’t have to know which peel will suit you. We can have a consultation about your skin condition before the treatment and discuss which will best suit you.
How soon will I see results from my Chemical Peel?
As your skin heals after treatment, your new and fresh face will be revealed in a matter of days, with continued improvement over the following weeks.
How should I prepare for my Chemical Peel?
Our advice is to stop using Vitamin A 5 days prior to your Chemical Peel.
What are the Chemical Peel side effects?
Chemical peels are safe facial treatments. Rare side effects could include allergic reactions, discolouration of the skin, blistering, or scarring.
Immediately after treatment, your skin will feel sunburned. Over the course of a week, your dead skin cells will gently scale away to reveal the fresh new skin underneath. Sun exposure must be avoided during the healing process and sunscreen is strongly encouraged.
Will a Chemical Peel burn my skin?
No. A Chemical Peel is designed to chemically remove the top layer of your skin. The peel is applied for a short period of time, but can sting a little when applied. Depending on how sensitive your skin is, determines what results you get.
How long does a Chemical Peel take?
Your chemical peel treatment will take 15-30 minutes, depending on the degree of the peel.
What are the alternatives to a Chemical Peel?
Microdermabrasion can also remove the top layer of the skin. They don’t work deep into the layers of the skin but can be an alternative.
How long do the results of a Chemical Peel last?
Chemical peels can provide long-lasting results and regular sessions help to maintain a youthful appearance as we age.
Who shouldn’t get a Chemical Peel?
Most people can benefit from a peel. But you shouldn’t have a chemical peel if you:
Are pregnant or suspect you might be
Are currently nursing
Have a history of skin disorders
Have had cold sores including herpes simplex virus, type 1
Use certain medications, herbal remedies or topical creams
Use prescription acne medications, such as Accutane
Have a sunburn or any open cuts or sores
